1.0.2 Make sure that Ubuntu's package index is up to date

~$ sudo apt-get update

1.0.3 Installation of the base components of ROS

~$ sudo apt-get install ros-melodic-ros-base

1.0.4 Intialize rosdep

~$ sudo rosdep init
~$ rosdep update

1.0.5 Setup the environment for future terminals

~$ echo "source /opt/ros/melodic/setup.bash" >> ~/.bashrc
~$ source ~/.bashrc
